Author of: Democracy, Development and the Countryside: Urban-Rural Struggles in India; India in the Era of Economic Reforms; Ethnic Conflict and Civic Life. Occasional Columnist, Financial Times and Indian Express. Recipient of the Guggenheim, Carnegie, MacArthur and Ford Foundation awards for research.
