World-known actor. First appeared on the cameras as a young tyke visiting Mayan ruins in the 1980 PBS production "The Voyage of the Mimi". Won notice as Madeline Kahn's son in "Wanted: The Perfect Guy" (1986); appeared in the 1987 miniseries "Hands of a Stranger" and "Against the Grain". Starred in 1994 HBO "Lifestories: Families in Crisis". Began his career on the big screen with "School Ties" (1992). Performed in "Dazed and Confused" (1993). 1995, began an association with filmmaker Kevin Smith appearing the ensemble "Mallrats" (1995). Co-wrote a script with childhood friend Matt Damon which Miramax purchased in 1996 and re-worked, producing the box-office hit "Good Will Hunting", which won 10 nominations, including Best Picture. The pair won Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Goodwill Hunting. Starred in "Armageddon" (1998) and "Shakespeare in Love" (1998) as well as "200 Cigarettes", "Dogma" and "Forces of Nature". 2001, appeared in "Pearl Harbour" as well as "The Sum of All Fears" and "Push, Nevada". Damon and Affleck dreamt up an Internet-related venture: a screenwrite competition named "Project Greenlight" which later resulted in an HBO television series and the feature "Stolen Summer" (2002).
