Chinwe Egwim is Chief Economist at FirstBank Group, leading enterprise-wide economic intelligence that supports executive and board-level decision-making. Her insights shape balance sheet positioning, liquidity management, economic risk strategy, and sector-level decisions across multiple markets.
She is a recognised voice in macroeconomics, translating complex trends into actionable insight for markets, policymakers, and business leaders. Her experience spans the Central Bank of Nigeria, Fitch Ratings, FBNQuest Merchant Bank, Coronation Merchant Bank, and Collaborative for Frontier Finance, with a focus on economic analysis, forecasting, and strategic advisory. She served as a National Consultant on a programme on services trade and regional integration under the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and is a member of Nigeria’s Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee. She also serves on the Board of Economists at BusinessDay Nigeria.
Across 100+ global speaking engagements spanning Africa, Europe, North America, and Asia, including the Kilkenomics Festival in Ireland, she has contributed to high-level economic discourse across markets. Her perspectives have informed executive-level decision-making with leading corporates including Nigerian Breweries, FrieslandCampina, Dufil Prima Foods, and MTN Group. Her work integrates gender dynamics into macroeconomic research, policy, and investment thinking to drive more inclusive economic outcomes, alongside leadership roles within Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ) and the Association of Professional Women Bankers (APWB).
She is the author of Understanding Economic Jargon and Super E: The Inflation Smackdown, a children’s book that follows a young superhero confronting inflation, using storytelling to make complex economic concepts accessible and relatable from an early age. Her work has earned multiple recognitions, including the Positive Role Model – West Africa award at the Accenture Gender Mainstreaming Awards, alongside listings among leading and influential women in finance and economic policy.
