Chiugo Aghaji

Chiugo Aghaji is a dedicated policy advisor and project manager with a deep commitment to driving sustainable energy transitions, equitable governance, and gender-inclusive development. She has worked extensively at the intersection of climate policy, extractives governance, and financial sustainability, contributing her expertise to international organizations, regional institutions, and multistakeholder initiatives.

With a strong background in energy governance and extractive industries transparency standards, Chiugo has advised on critical minerals policy, just transition strategies, and climate change mitigation. Her work with the EITI and Paris Peace Forum’s Global Council on Transition Minerals focuses on sustainable critical mineral supply chains, promoting beneficiation in source countries, and ensuring a fair and just energy transition. She has also contributed to policy discussions on stranded assets, beneficial ownership transparency, and regional infrastructure financing.

Chiugo currently serves as an Advisory Council Member in Charge of Governance and Impact with the Global Shapers Community, a World Economic Forum initiative. In this capacity, she provides strategic oversight, ensuring impactful youth-led interventions that shape global policy discussions. Additionally, as Project Manager for the Climate Leadership Fellowship, she leads efforts to train climate advocates who, in turn, educate their communities on climate science and policy.

Previously, Chiugo played a pivotal role at the ECOWAS Commission, where she worked on financial sustainability, regional infrastructure funding, and digitalizing financial reporting systems across 14 West African countries. Her expertise in financial governance enabled her to lead projects on cost recovery, community levies, and regional economic integration.
Beyond policy and governance, Chiugo is passionate about gender equity in the energy sector, advocating for increased opportunities for women in leadership roles within climate and extractives industries. She believes that a just energy transition must be inclusive, leveraging the talents and perspectives of women to drive sustainable solutions. Through her work, she has mentored young professionals and championed policies that foster women’s participation in the green economy.
A bilingual professional fluent in English and French, Chiugo’s international experience and ability to engage diverse stakeholders have made her a trusted voice in policy dialogues on energy, governance, and sustainability. She continues to seek opportunities to bridge global policies with localized impact, ensuring that communities—especially women and marginalized groups—are at the center of climate action and economic transformation.
