Daniel Wiener is the Founder and President of the Global Infrastructure Basel Foundation (GIB), which has been promoting sustainable and resili-ent infrastructure finance since 2012. GIB is the secretariat of the globally recognized, independent FAST Infra Standard for Sustainable, Resilient and Regenerative Infrastructure.

In addition to his responsibilities at the GIB, Daniel is the founder and former Chairman of ecos, a leading Switzerland-based international consulting firm for economic, social and environmental sustainable development, located in Basel. Since 1987, ecos has supported businesses, public institu-tions, associations, municipalities and national governments in designing and implementing sustainable development strategies, innovation and projects.

From 2014-2025 Daniel was a member of the Board of Directors and Head of Investor Relations of the Swiss logistics infrastructure platform Cargo Sous Terrain (CST). He is a co-founder and was a long term Board member of both the award winning Basel Agency for Sustainable Energy BASE (a UNEP Collaborating Centre, since 2001) and of the Swisscleantech Association (since 2009). He is the Deputy Chairman of the Swiss Future Fund Foundation that promotes later stage venture investments by pension funds.

After having acted as a founding member on the Board of Directors of the Gold Standard Foundation for 12 years, he is now supporting the organisation as a Senior Advisor.

Daniel is a Swiss national, born in 1953 in Bern. He lives in Basel and has served as a Consultant to Cities, the World Bank, the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and to infrastructure investors on public participation, communication, carbon and climate finance as well as sustainable infrastructure finance.

He is an economist, who holds a post-graduate degree in Art's Management from the University of Basel. Daniel is an experienced journalist, moderator, published author, urban planning specialist and ecologist with more than 40 years of practice in these fields. Daniel Wiener is a pioneer in the field of Socially Responsible Investing (SRI, e.g. for UBS).
