Degree in Chemical Engineering, Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD); 1984, degree (Hons) in Economics, Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC). 1973, joined the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD). 1986, 1990 and 1994, elected Deputy to the National Congress; 1990-94, block spokesman; President, Provisional Committee on Social Affairs and the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino). 1994, Pesident of the Chamber of Deputies; 1996-2000 and 2004-06, Secretary of State for the Presidency, coordinating the actions of government agencies, the functioning of public administration, autonomous institutions and other decentralized entities. 2004, Director of Strategy and Campaign Adviser to the president-elect for 2004-2008. 20 May 2012, elected Constitutional President of the Dominican Republic. Believes in a government that serves the people, in equal opportunities for development and in speaking truthfully.
