Diana Choyleva is founder and Chief Economist of Enodo Economics and a Senior Fellow at the Asia Society Policy Institute's Center for China Analysis. An economist and geopolitical strategist, she is one of the world's leading analysts of how China is reshaping the global macro and geopolitical environment – and what that means for investors, policymakers, and corporate leaders navigating the era of great-power rivalry.
Trained as a global economist and covering almost every major economy across her career, Diana has focused on China for over 25 years – longer than almost any Western economist of her generation. She founded Enodo Economics in 2016 as an independent, interdisciplinary forecasting firm, integrating macroeconomics, geopolitics, finance, and technology into a single analytical framework at a time when few others were doing so. The firm's clients include the world's leading investors, business leaders, and policymakers.
Before founding Enodo, Diana spent 16 years at Lombard Street Research (now TS Lombard), one of the world's most respected independent macro research houses. She joined in 2000 after completing her MSc in Economics at the University of Warwick, became an executive director in 2005, headed the firm's UK Service from 2005 to 2009, and was based in Hong Kong from 2010 to 2013 overseeing its expansion in Asia. She rose to become Chief Economist and Head of Research, setting the analytical agenda for the firm's global team of economists and strategists while conducting her own analysis across developed and developing economies on every continent. This foundation as a truly global economist – not a China specialist who learned macro, but a global macro economist who focused on China – is what gives her analysis its distinctive depth and range.
Her track record of major calls speaks for itself. She predicted the global financial crisis in 2016, forecast China's structural growth slowdown in 2011 and coined The Great Decoupling in 2017-18, identifying the bifurcation of US-led and China-led spheres of influence before it became consensus. Her most recent book, Petrodollar to Digital Yuan: China, the Gulf, and the 21st Century Path to De-Dollarization (2025), examines how China's development of alternative financial infrastructure could transform the global monetary order. She has also written China's Quest for Financial Self-Reliance (2022), The American Phoenix (2011), and The Bill from the China Shop (2006).
Diana founded Enodo Consilium, a closed-door cross-disciplinary forum bringing together former central bank heads, intelligence chiefs, military leaders, and global investors to discuss the forces reshaping markets and geopolitics. Members include former US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, former Bank of England Governor Sir Mervyn King, former MI6 Chief Sir Alex Younger, and former UK Chief of the Defence Staff General Sir Nick Carter.
She is a regular speaker at the World Economic Forum, the Milken Institute Global Conference, and other leading global forums, and writes frequently for the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Nikkei Asian Review, and Foreign Policy. She is a regular commentator on Bloomberg, the BBC, and CNBC. From March 2023 to August 2025, she served as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of JPMorgan Asia Growth and Income plc and from May 2015 to November 2018 as a Trustee of Cardboard Citizens. She is a member of the Political Economy Club, founded in 1821.
