Eileen McNeely

Faculty and Executive Director of the Sustainability and Health Initiative, Harvard University

Dr. McNeely is Founder and Executive Director of the Sustainability and Health Initiative for Netpositive Enterprise (SHINE), part of the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University. At SHINE, her team conducts research on the impact of work and business operations on individual, organizational, and societal well-being and works with companies across all sectors as “living laboratories” to understand ways to positively impact the health of people and planet throughout the business value chain. Her research is currently focused on work as a platform to improve well-being and making visible the impacts of business on people, planet and place in pursuit of sustainability and flourishing for all.
Dr. McNeely has extensive experience in the areas of environmental epidemiology, occupational and community health, health promotion, health services management and policy, and clinical practice as a nurse practitioner. She has worked as a consultant, researcher, clinician and educator in the field for over 20 years, has authored many publications on the impact of work on well-being and is a renowned expert in the sustainability and health of human capital in the workplace.
SHINE convenes the SHINE Summit at Harvard, a gathering of renowned scientists and pioneering leaders of industry engaging in critical interdisciplinary conversations on the role of business in advancing health and well-being. SHINE Summit 2023, taking place in Cambridge this October, will examine how the meaning and metrics of work have changed, and will explore new systems to measure purpose, productivity and performance, factoring human flourishing into business success metrics.
