Giulia Ajmone Marsan

Director, Strategy and Partnerships, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA)

Giulia is an innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship strategist, with over 15 years of experience in economic analysis and advice, policy dialogue, research, capacity building and economic diplomacy & multilateralism. During her career, Dr Ajmone Marsan has advised a broad range of government officials, international organisations and other stakeholders globally: across ASEAN and Asia, Latin America, Africa, MENA, OECD, the G7 and the G20.

Dr Ajmone Marsan is currently the Head of Startups and Digital Inclusion at ERIA (Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia) where she initiated the organisation’s work on entrepreneurship, start-up and innovation eco-systems; women entrepreneurship, economic empowerment and leadership in the digital economy; skills for the digital transformation and innovation.

Prior to joining ERIA, Giulia worked as an Innovation Economist at the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development), where she contributed to the activities of several Directorates such as the Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation and the Center for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities.

Giulia is currently a member of the International Secretariat of Startup20, the innovation and entrepreneurship engagement group under G20 South Africa; she is a Board Member of United Afro-Experts for Innovation (UAEFI); she is an associate of the Edinburgh Futures Institute; she is a member of the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Expert Network; she collaborates extensively with leading multilateral bodies, think tanks and universities.

Giulia’s analysis, publications, op-eds and commentaries have been featured in leading international journals and media outlets. Dr Ajmone Marsan holds Bachelor and Master degrees in Applied Mathematics from the Polytechnic School of Turin, Italy and a PhD in Economics and Complex Systems jointly awarded from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris, France and the IMT Institute for Advanced Studies, Lucca, Italy.
