Halimah is a Lawyer and Documentary Filmmaker currently running her own production company ‘Stories of the Soil’(SOTS), founded on the premise of promoting activism through film. She is also currently an A-levels Global Perspective teacher in Islamabad, Pakistan.
In addition to her role as a documentary filmmaker, she is also the Global Outreach Coordinator for Connecther (an organization that encourages women and girls globally to tell their stories through film – www.connecther.org ). Her work has highlighted powerhouses such as Mussarath Misbah, who is currently involved in rehabilitating acid victims all over Pakistan; Ghulam Fatima (founder of the Bonded Labor Liberation Front, BLLF) who is actively fighting to free individuals from the shackles of bonded labor and Nigar Nazar, the first female cartoonist of Pakistan and founder of the beloved Gogi Comics and child education campaign, Ilm ki Daulat.
Halimah has also collaborated with the Special Olympics Pakistan to create the documentary, ‘Being Special’, a feature on the extraordinary work and training that Pakistan’s Special Olympic athletes and coaches undergo each year.
Her film, “Fatima”, a feature on the stigma of bonded labor in Pakistan, was showcased at the 9th San Francisco Green Film Festival in 2019 and The Women International Film Festival 2020. Additionally, she has also created a brand awareness campaign for her production company, Stories of the Soil. Halimah has spoken at various events, among them being the PAF Women’s seminar, first Women International Film Festival in Pakistan, The Connecther and Ian Somerhalder Foundation Fundraiser (New York 2018) and The Girls Impact the World Film Festival 2020, to name a few.
Halimah has also collaborated with UNODC and NACTA in creating an awareness campaign for Pakistan’s Action to Counter Terrorism(PACT). The primary aim of the campaign was to raise awareness on the risks posed by terrorism financing.
