Hanan Abukmail is a medical doctor and researcher. Dr. Abukmail is currently doing her MPhil degree at the University of Cambridge, UK. Being a four-war survivor in Occupied Palestine, and dealing day-to-day with patients has taught her the real meaning of empathy, that is, maintaining the lofty ideal to always treat people with kindness.
Dr. Abukmail has a strong interest in health data science and in cancer and health quality research. She worked on many quality improvement projects with different health organizations like ICRC and IMC to develop local guidelines and to improve the delivery of healthcare and patient safety. More recently, she has worked on the largest national population study, Cancer Awareness in Palestine, which included more than 30,000 participants. She is a co-author of several papers published in high-impact journals such as the Journal of Global Oncology and BMC Public Health. Additionally to participating in regional and national conferences including and the 42nd European Cystic Fibrosis Conference in the UK and LPHA Conference in Jordan.
In 2019, she launched with colleagues an initiative to promote interest in scientific research among Palestinian university students with a membership of more than 500 students. Through this initiative, “The Researchist”, she has been seeking to establish such a vessel gathering medical students and practitioners who are interested in research.
