A first-generation American, Hector Mujica grew up in South Florida after his parents immigrated from Venezuela in search of opportunity. Raised in a humble middle-class family, he watched his father serve as a pastor and community elder. The Mujica family home always served as a refuge—welcoming new arrivals, families in crisis, and people experiencing homelessness. Sharing rooms, meals, and responsibilities wasn’t unusual; it was expected. Those lessons guide Hector today: every person deserves dignity, and leaders should build pathways, not barriers.
Hector isn’t a career politician. He’s a father, husband, pragmatic problem-solver, and bridge builder. As Head of Americas Philanthropy at Google, he led global initiatives that directed nearly $1 billion into workforce training, small-business growth, and disaster recovery—impacting millions across the Americas and here in Florida. His work helped veterans re-enter the workforce, created tech apprenticeships that removed barriers to education, and delivered cash and connectivity in times of crisis. Building on that experience, Hector has been on the frontlines of the future of work—ensuring technology serves people, not the other way around—by expanding access to apprenticeships, AI readiness, and good-paying jobs so working families can thrive in a rapidly changing economy.
Rooted in service, Hector began his career as a fellow in the U.S. Department of State’s Economic Section, where he learned how policy shapes both local and global economies. He has since partnered with civil rights and community leaders nationwide and served on the boards of the Hispanic Federation, Hispanics in Philanthropy, the Latino Community Foundation, and the Aspen Institute’s Latinos & Society Program. A proud graduate of Florida public schools, Hector earned his bachelor’s degree from Florida International University and a master’s in public policy from UC Berkeley. He and his wife, Tara, are raising their son, Luca, in South Florida, alongside their dog Coco. Hector is running to bring results, balance, and a fresh perspective to Washington—rooted in expanding opportunity that pays, lowering costs for families, protecting children from gun violence, and restoring dignity and trust in politics.
