MA in Economics, Cambridge University; Master’s in Public Administration, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. 1997-2000, Principal Private Secretary to then-Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew. Formerly: with the Singapore Police Force; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade and Industry; Chief Executive Officer, Trade Development Board; Managing Director, Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). 2011-15, Minister for Education; drove programmes for a student-centric, values-driven education system, emphasizing the holistic development of students and multiple educational pathways. 2015, chaired the Singapore 50 (SG50) Steering Committee. Currently, Minister for Finance and Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC. The Ministry of Finance manages the national budget, oversees corporate governance regulations, and supervises the prudent investment and use of public funds and government reserves. Co-chaired the Committee on the Future Economy (CFE), which charted the strategies for Singapore's next phase of growth. Chair, tripartite Future Economy Council, which oversees the implementation of national strategies in areas such as skills and capabilities development, innovation and productivity, and industry transformation. Chairman, National Research Foundation, which sets the direction for Singapore's research, innovation and enterprise strategies. Recipient of awards and honours.
