Degree in Economics, University of Washington; degree in Law, Willamette University. Former prosecutor. 1985, helped lead the effort to build a new public high school in Selah. Then represented the 14th Legislative District in the state House of Representatives. 1992, elected to Congress; 1998-2012, re-elected; leader on issues of clean energy and the environment. Currently, Governor of Washington; aims to grow Washington's innovative industries such as clean energy, IT and life sciences, and strengthen existing industries such as aerospace, agriculture, maritime and military. Charter Member, Hoopaholics. Co-Author, "Apollo's Fire: Igniting America's Clean-Energy Economy," about the job-creating potential of the clean tech industry. Writes and illustrates books for grandchildren; sketches scenes from around Washington; cyclist.
