Recipient of awards including: Gold Medal, French Academy of Architecture; Royal Gold Medal, Royal Institute of British Architects; 2001, Italy's Borromini Prize, for Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre and Japan's Praemium Imperial Career Prize; 2005, Wolf Prize; Arnold W Brunner Memorial Prize in Architecture; 2006, International Highrise Award for Agbar tower; 2008, Pritzker Prize.
