Jomana Abunahla obtained her Bachelor's in English Language Translation from Al-Azhar University in Gaza. She is an activist dedicated to advocating for women, people with disabilities, and children's rights. Jomana is the holder of the Zaida Catalan scholarship, the 1325 scholarship for Women, Peace, and Security. Through working with The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy MIFTAH مفتاح, she is responsible to document human rights violations against women and girls in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
In 2019, Jomana started her volunteerism journey as a Y-peer member, where she promotes meaningful youth participation and gender equality, enhancing young people's Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. In 2021, She was selected to be a member within the first of it is kind, the Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) in Palestine, where she participated in multiple meetings with decision-makers to represent Palestinian youth and with donor institutes to discuss 2022-2030 strategic goals and plans for youth. She is also a Gender Innovation Agora member and a Global Shaper.
Being a volunteer herself helped her in her professional life; as a community mobilizer with UNFPA, where she was responsible for raising awareness around the importance of civil service and volunteerism among youth and reviving the spirit of volunteering in Palestinian society through a National Youth Volunteer Service Programme (NYVSP). Through her work and activism, she strives to create and sustain a just and equitable society and eliminate all forms of gender-based violence and discrimination against youth.
