BSc and degree in Law, Mysore University. Formerly, career in law. 1983, elected to 7th Karnataka Legislative Assembly; re-elected in 1985, 1994 and 2004; served the Government of Karnataka as Minister for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, and as Deputy Chief Minister, twice with the Finance & Excise portfolio. 2013, re-elected to 14th Legislative Assembly, Varuna Constituency; elected as Congress Legislative Party Leader; Chief Minister of Karnataka.
