Unit. 2009, joined The Pew Charitable Trusts
as Senior Director, International Oceans;
managed international oceans programme,
which included projects that focus on ending
overfishing in Europe, conserving sharks,
tunas, deep-sea life, establishing large-scale
marine reserves, and ending illegal fishing.
2004, first person from a non-governmental
organization to speak at a regular session of
the United Nations General Assembly,
representing the concerns of over 60
organizations from around the world over the
plight of our oceans. Has led and participated
in NGO delegations to the International
Whaling Commission, Antarctic Trea ty
meetings, UN Conventions on Biological
Diversity and Climate Change, FAO
Committee on Fisheries, UN Oceans and the
Law of the Sea meetings and the UN Fish
Stocks Agreement. Co-Author of a peerreviewed
policy paper published in a special
edition of Marine Pollution which focuses on
options for reforming global ocean
governance for the 21st century.
