Larry Clinton

President and Chief Executive Officer, Internet Security Alliance - ISA

Mr. Clinton has led the Internet Security Alliance (ISA) for over 20 years. ISA is a multi-sector trade association that focuses on thought leadership, policy advocacy, and developing best cybersecurity practices for corporate boards of directors.

In addition to testifying before Congress on multiple occasions, Mr. Clinton has been a featured briefer/speaker at the NATO Center for Cyber Excellence in Estonia, The G-20 Digital Security Working Group in Riyad, Saudi Arabia, The Organization of American States Cybersecurity Summit in Santiago, Chile, and the World Economic Forum Cyber Summit in Geneva, Switzerland.

He was awarded a “Challenge Medal” from CISA Director Jen Easterly and has won three “Reed Awards” from Campaigns and Elections Magazine. He has also presented at numerous conferences including multiple appearances at RSA, the New York AI Summit, and many others. Mr. Clinton also sits on Informatech’s AI Security Council.

Mr. Clinton literally wrote the book on best cybersecurity practices for corporate boards i.e., the Director’s Handbook on Cyber-Risk Oversight which ISA publishes in partnership with the NACD. The NACD-ISA Handbook is the only set of best practices in the cyber field that has been independently assessed (by PWC, MIT and the World Economic Forum) and found to generate improved cybersecurity benefits. Documented impacts from use of the NACD-ISA handbook include better risk management, closer alignment of cybersecurity with business practices, and enhanced culture of security as well as an expected 80% reduction in cyber events without raising costs. ISA has partnered with industry and governments to produce 10 adapted handbook versions in 5 languages on 4 continents.

In addition to the Cyber Risk Oversight Handbooks Mr. Clinton is the lead author and editor of The Cybersecurity Social Contract (2016) Cybersecurity for Business (2022) Fixing American Cybersecurity (2023) and numerous professional journal articles in the Journal of Strategic Security, Cyber Security: A Peer Reviewed Journal, and Cutter IT Journal of Information Technology Management.

Mr. Clinton teaches a graduate course in cyber risk management at the Wharton School and has provided cybersecurity training for the Federal Reserve Bank. He has served on a wide variety of boards and advisory commissions including the IT Sector Coordinating Council (two terms as Chair) The Center for Audit Quality's Cyber Advisory Committee and the Better Business Bureau's Small Business Advisory Board.

Mr. Clinton has been a featured expert on cyber security in virtually every major media outlet including the New York Times, USA Today, Fox Business News, CBS, Morning Show, PBS Morning Edition and Science Friday, as well as the PBS News Hour, CNN’s Situation Room, CNBC’s Closing Bell, and MTV in India.
