Loice Erambo is a licensed lawyer in Kenya. I am a deals practitioner involved in a myriad of legal issues including human rights, commercial transactions and public finance management towards advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals and AU Agenda 2063.
Loice is also the former Curator of the Nairobi Hub of the Global Shapers Community. In my time, I led the hub in various projects to advance our impact areas including:
a. submitting to Kenyan Parliament a memorandum pushing for amendment of the Refugees Bill. This was in collaboration with members of the Kakuma Hub;
b. providing coding lessons to students in Kibera slums and Kakuma Refugee camp in collaboration with iamtheCODE;
c. organizing for the inaugural visit by Nairobi Hub to Kakuma Refugee camp; and
d. publishing a green catalogue showcasing green alternatives to everyday products and services. This was supported by a 30 days environmental campaign. We partnered with close to 20 organizations.
On the leadership front, I led the hub to adopt a Vision 2021-2025 policy document. Further, we consolidated a Hub Charter for adoption by the members. The Charter is still under consideration by the Hub.
Besides the above, until recently, I was a Board member of Greenpeace Africa. Greenpeace is an international independent NGO involved in environmental justice activities globally. The Africa entity has National Regional Offices in South Africa, Kenya, DRC, Cameroon and Senegal. Their recent successes include the campaign against the proposed coal powered plant in Lamu county, Kenya which was eventually halted by order of the Kenyan environmental court. As a Board, we oversaw the activities of the Africa offices including providing technical advice, financial oversight, instilling corporate governance principles and monitoring staff motivation.
I am also a former member of the British Council Next Generation Youth Task Force-Kenya. The taskforce undertook extensive qualitative research into the aspirations and opinions of young Kenyans and published policy recommendations towards improving lives of Kenyan youth.
Finally, I am a member of the Alumni network of Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) Regional Leadership Center, East Africa. YALI is a leadership program launched by former President of the United States Barack Obama as a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders.
