Marcel Pinas

Founding Curator and Alumni, Paramaribo Hub

Marcel Pinas is an internationally recognized visual artist who engages his art as medium to call attention to the Suriname Maroon culture, its cultural wealth and traditions, as well as its vulnerability to our rapidly changing modern world. His installations, through which he offers a highly critical discourse on social issues surrounding Maroon communities to both the communities themselves and to the government, have been displayed at highly visible international fora. Pinas is the Founder of the Kibii Wi Foundation, which uses his international career as platform to establish grassroots cultural centres for the preservation of the Maroon heritage through art and culture.
