More than 30 years’ experience helping unite healthcare workers. 2010, first women elected International President, 2 million-member Service Employees International Union (SEIU); leadership is rooted in a deep-seated belief that when individuals join together they can make the impossible possible; has led SEIU to win major victories to improve working families’ lives by strengthening and uniting healthcare, property services and public sector workers with other working people across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Believes that to better fulfil the promise of a just society, which America has always aspired to be, it is necessary to fight for justice on all fronts, including defending the gains accomplished for access to affordable healthcare for all families under the Affordable Care Act, comprehensive immigration reform and a path to citizenship for all hardworking immigrant families, and safety and justice in all communities of colour across the country. Named one of the 100 most creative leaders, Fast Company magazine (2015); named among top 50 visionaries reshaping American politics, Politico magazine, for SEIU’s innovative leadership in propelling the fight for living wages embodied in the historic movement known as the “Fight for $15.”
