1981, PhD in Mobile Communications, University of Birmingham, UK. 1998, Founder, MSI Cellular Investments, later renamed Celtel International, which operates in more than a third of Africa's population; 2005, Celtel International sold to MTC Kuwait for US$ 3.4 billion. Founding Chair, Mo Ibrahim Foundation. Member of Boards including: Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa; International Crisis Group; Oversight Board, Natural Resources Charter. Recipient of awards, including: The Chairman's Award for Lifetime Achievement, GSM Association (2007).
