Mohamed Okash

Founding Director, Institute of Climate and Environment

Mohamed Okash is a researcher, social entrepreneur, and environmentalist dedicated to addressing humanity’s most pressing challenges—climate change, social inequality, and sustainable development. As the founding director of the Institute of Climate and Environment (ICE) in Mogadishu, he is also a member of the Global Future Council on Climate and Nature Governance, where he contributes to global conversations on sustainable policy and environmental resilience. Passionate about leveraging foresight, policy, and research, Okash works at the intersection of sustainability, governance, and socio-economic transformation to drive systemic change. With a deep commitment to human capital and institutional development, Mohamed is involved in a number of community-powered social ventures addressing development issues in Somalia. Additionally, Okash has been a Global Shaper since 2018, served as an Impact Officer, Curator, and Community Champion for Central and East Africa. His work is grounded in advancing formidable solutions to build a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable
future for all.
