Dr. Mohammad Salem Omaid is a banking and financial-services leader and entrepreneur with nearly two decades of experience across banking, finance, digital transformation and institutional leadership.
He previously served as Chief Executive Officer of one of Afghanistan’s banks and held senior industry leadership positions, including Chairman of the Afghanistan Banking Association and Chairman of the Afghanistan Payments System. During his banking career, he contributed to the modernization and development of the country’s financial sector, with experience spanning corporate and retail banking, finance, credit, operations, investment and digital transformation.
He is currently an entrepreneur in the UAE, where he has founded and developed financial technology ventures focused on digital payments, embedded financial services and expanding access to technology-enabled financial solutions.
In addition, he serves as Chairman of an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) in Afghanistan, contributing his extensive banking and financial-services experience to the continued development, modernization and innovation of the country’s financial sector.
Selected as a Young Global Leader in 2021. Dr. Omaid has actively participated in international dialogues and initiatives addressing leadership, economic development, financial inclusion and emerging global challenges. His international engagements have included exchanges with governments, the United Nations, global institutions and fellow Young Global Leaders, as well as engagements at institutions including the University of Oxford and the UK Parliament.
He has been internationally recognized for his contributions to leadership, banking and finance, receiving a number of distinguished international awards and recognitions for his professional achievements and broader leadership impact.
Dr. Omaid holds a doctorate in Financial Management and remains engaged in entrepreneurship, international leadership initiatives and efforts aimed at strengthening financial inclusion, innovation and sustainable economic development.
