Nerissa is currently the co-founder and CEO of āxil, a fintech platform-as-a-service focused on helping entrepreneurs with their everyday finances as they grow.
Prior to āxil, Nerissa has filled numerous senior executive roles in her two-decade corporate career, to manage and grow global businesses, perform turnarounds, and orchestrate multinational strategic change. Most recently, Nerissa was the Global Head of Strategy at AIG, whilst concurrently overseeing four of its businesses in Asia and the USA as a Board Member. In this capacity she was a member of the extended C-suite - the most senior executives within AIG.
Nerissa was appointed as a non-executive board member and advisor to multiple startups in the UK and USA over the last 4 years. The positions are cross-industry, and include behavioural science based technologies, fintechs and online retail ventures. Her directive is to advise on the overall operating model, growth and revenue generation as the businesses mature and gain strategic funding.
As a native South African who grew up in Apartheid, Nerissa has been a proponent of equality and strives to break the mould of stereotypes in gender, race and professional norms. She has been a keynote speaker on diversity and inclusion, and chaired discussions on systemic inequality and racial injustice. She is a global mentor, coach to underprivileged scholars and an executive sponsor in diversity groups for women, minorities and young professionals.
