Nick Ison

Retail Guide, Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana

Growing up I had a special interest in the arts, with activities ranging from pen and ink drawing, cello performance and creative writing. But, nearing graduation I also developed an interest in spirituality and faith communities, especially when belief met practice in the form of service work and what I would now describe as social justice efforts. This interest convinced me that a career in community-focused ministry was the ideal fit, and led me through four years of studying at Boston University, two years working in Philadelphia and three years earning an M. Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary.

My interest in community-focused approaches to problem solving and shared space has never been greater. In particular, I’m interested in blurring the lines that have traditionally separated American society - both in terms of professional barriers (public/private or non-profit/for-profit/government organizations) and cultural ones (age, race, class, belief system, etc). It is my strong conviction that the happiest, healthiest communities have the well-being of all citizens equally in mind, and any collaborative effort towards accomplishing that goal is where I want to spend my time, both personally and professionally.
