Pearl Kitcher is a Public Health Nutritionist, a budding Entrepreneur and a Researcher. Pearl has a degree in MSc. Public Health Nutrition from the University of Chester, England and with an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from a reputable university in Ghana.
Pearl has inherent interests in problem-solving and entrepreneurship in Food and Agribusiness sectors and these are mainly inspired by the era of Digital Transformation and attainment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Pearl has volunteered for some philanthropic organisations including the African Research Academies for Women (Ara-W), Soap Box Science – Accra, the Future of Ghana and Thought for Food. Pearl has impacted about forty women in the field of STEM, 20 women in a bead-making livelihood project and approximately 30 start-ups in the food and agribusiness sectors.
As an Impact Officer for the hub in 2021, Pearl helped in mobilising resources and ensured that there was a successful Menstrual Hygiene Project and also participated in a females' mentorship project called She Inpires.
As a Curator for 2022 to 2023, she served as the initiator and project lead for the climate project on plastic waste disposal. Together with her team of five, they went through the Climate Reality Incubator and now, have been successful at securing an initial grant of 3,000USD to start the project. She is currently searching for collaborators who will be interested in plastic recycling and upcycling.
She also served as a speaker on a Mental Health talk organised by the GSC Birmingham hub. As a Nutritionist, she talked about diet and how it influences one's mood and actions. She is working towards cross-hub collaborations in this regard.
As an outgone Curator, Pearl continues to serve in the hub as an active member and remains the project lead for the Climate Reality project on Plastic Waste. She has also let her team to start a digital sustainability series o Twitter, where topics that pertain to sustainability are shared periodically. This project has invited international speakers and collaborated with hubs globally, including the Gold Coast hub in Australia for one of their virtual sessions on X (formerly Twitter).
