Peter Williams

Country Director, International Justice Mission (IJM)

I have a Ba/LLB(hons) from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. I began my career as a Crown Prosecutor in first instance and appellate trials across a range of criminal offending and was published several times in areas of criminal law and practice.

A strong desire to work in human rights / social justice in the developing world led me to International Justice Mission in 2010. I have led two dynamic cross-cultural teams - one in India and currently in Cambodia, both being offices of 30-50 professionals working to strengthen criminal justice responses to modern slavery through collaborative casework, targeted capacity building and government advocacy.

I have both experience and interest in the application of the rule of law in developing contexts; building evidence against national and international human trafficking networks; driving institutional change within public justice arms of government; ensuring access to justice for the vulnerable poor.
