Probir Mehta

Director, Global Policy Planning, Meta

Probir Mehta is the Director of Global Policy Planning at Meta. He leads strategic projects and initiatives on behalf of the VP of Global Policy, managing cross-policy coordination on regulatory analysis and product counseling, and overseeing the strategic planning and the policy briefing processes.

Previously, he served as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Innovation & IP at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, where he was responsible for developing and overseeing U.S. trade policy related to innovation and IP and served as the lead IP negotiator for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Probir previously served as Associate General Counsel at USTR, where he provided legal counsel and analysis on intellectual property, standards, labor, and trade preference programs for emerging markets. While at USTR, he was selected to serve as a senior advisor to the U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator where he developed and coordinated innovation-related international economic policy.

Prior to his government service, Probir practiced law in Washington, DC, clerked for the Honorable Federico A. Moreno of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, was a Visiting Scholar at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences in Kolkata, India, and an Associate Professorial Lecturer in Law at The George Washington University Law School.

Probir holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan, a MSc. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.
