Raksha Ramloll

Community Champion, Indian Ocean Islands

Raksha Ramloll serves as a Programme Associate in the Environment Unit of a global development organization, where she supports a diverse portfolio spanning climate change adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity conservation, sustainable land management, and chemicals and waste management.

She is also a PhD candidate at the Islands and Small States Institute, University of Malta, where her research focuses on nature-positive finance for sustainable coastal management in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), with a particular emphasis on Mauritius. Her work explores innovative financing mechanisms to bridge biodiversity and climate finance gaps, contributing to policy and investment solutions for resilient coastal ecosystems.

Raksha’s interest in ocean sustainability began through her engagement with the Port Louis Hub of the Global Shapers Community in 2013, where she co-founded the #SeeingBlue ocean initiative. She played an active role in the project’s development and implementation over four years and held several leadership positions within the hub, including Curator (2017 and 2020), Vice-Curator (2019), and member of the Curatorship Team (2018 and 2021).

Her professional experience spans project management, customer experience design, and digital marketing. She began her career in the tertiary education sector before transitioning into strategic marketing and student engagement at the African Leadership University, an institution recognized among the most innovative education providers globally. She is a Certified Professional in Digital Marketing and holds a Commonwealth Executive MBA.

Raksha has demonstrated longstanding leadership in youth development, having served as the first female and youngest Chairperson of the National Youth Council under the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation. During her five-year tenure, she contributed to initiatives impacting over 440,000 young people and played a role in shaping youth-related policies in Mauritius. With over two decades of engagement in youth affairs, she continues to champion inclusive development and youth empowerment at both grassroots and national levels.
