Rui Maria de Araújo

Studied English Literature, Satya Wacana University, Central Java; 1986, Medical School, Sultan Agung University; 1989, training, Medical Faculty, Udayana University; 1994, GP and MD; 2001, Master’s in Public Health, Otago University, New Zealand. During studies, began clandestine activities to support the resistance struggle, supplying information on the occupation to the Timorese diaspora and acting as a courier for secret documents and packages. 1989, joined RENETIL, Timor-Leste's National Student Resistance. 1990-92, special liaison in Bali for FALINTIL'S Commander in Chief and civil society organizations supporting the resistance struggle. 1991, assisted the team from Yorkshire Television on documentary "In Cold Blood: The Massacre of East Timor". 1994, returned to Timor-Leste and worked as a GP and House Surgeon, Provincial Hospital, Dili. Worked within the United Nations Transitional Administration, firstly in the Interim Health Authority, then as the Head, Division of Health Services; 2001-07, Minister for Health. 2006, concurrently, Deputy Prime Minister of Social Affairs. 2007-12, Member of the Council of State. 2010, joined FRETILIN; 2011, elected Member, Central Committee. Since February 2015, Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, leading the sixth Constitutional Government.
