Sajini Wickramasinghe

Global Shaper, Colombo Hub

Sajini is the Outgoing Curator of the Colombo Hub. She is an Attorney-at-Law at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, a researcher, a writer and a youth advocate for human rights, participatory democracy, climate justice and disarmament. Her vision is to build a just and a peaceful world and to empower every human being to live with dignity and equality. She earned her Bachelor of Laws and Master's in Human Rights and Democratisation from University of Colombo where she researched on 'right to political participation' for her Master's thesis. She acts as the Rapporteur on Discrimination at the Commonwealth Youth Human Rights and Democracy Network for 2022-2024 where she monitors discrimination and strategizes to enhance the civic, governance and rights based engagement of young people in the region. She participated in the Commonwealth Youth Leaders' Summit in March 2023 at, London UK.

Sajini acts as a youth coordinator and a campaigner on ATT and TPNW at Forum on Disarmament and Development. She was selected as a delegate to the 2nd Youth MSP in TPNW and one of the 100 global youth of the 1st cohort of Youth Leaders Fund by UNODA and Government of Japan. She was the President of the Law Students' Association of Sri Lanka for 2020-2021 and President of the Rotaract Club of Faculty of Law, University of Colombo 2018-2019.

Being a youth activist for 7 years she founded Democracy and Governance Initiative of Sri Lanka in May 2020 as she realized majority of the issues of the country can be solved by better governance and functional participatory democracy. She has participated in numerous media conferences, radio programmes and social media initiatives and has authored several newspaper articles promoting inclusive politics, rights and laws in Sri Lanka. Through her organization she raises public awareness on the importance of active civic engagement, human rights issues of the country and ways to engage in a democracy, with special focus on young people. She was selected as a Youth Climate Ambassador by the British Council Sri Lanka as she is keen to integrate a rights based approach (HRBA) to climate action locally and globally. She participated in COP28 and she currently acts as the Sri Lanka co-lead at World's Youth for Climate Justice advocating for ICJ Advisory Opinion on Climate Change.
