Sarah Ziegler

Sarah Ziegler is Postdoctoral fellow at Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Prevention Institute, University of Zurich, Switzerland. Her research focuses on medical end-of-life decisions and palliative care. She investigates the prevalence of medical end-of-life decisions such as forgoing life-prolonging treatment decisions, intensified alleviation of pain and symptoms and physician-assisted death. She also studies current trends in palliative sedation and how these are related to healthcare professionals' conceptual and procedural understanding, patients' sociodemographics and clinical characteristics, and healthcare settings. She presented her research at the 5th and 6th International Conference on Advance Care Planning and End of Life, as well as at the 10th World Research Congress of the European Association for Palliative Care. She was named as member of the international advisory board within the project „SedPall: From anxiolysis to deep continuous sedation – Development of recommendations for sedation in specialist palliative care“. Papers from Sarah's work has been published in international peer reviewed journals. In addition to her research portfolio at the EBPI, Sarah is the part-time coordinator for the international structured PhD program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
