1987, Bachelor's in Engineering and 1995, Master's degrees in Architecture and in Public Administration, Harvard University. Formerly: managed federal lending and affordable housing investments, Prudential Mortgage Capital Company; Deputy Assistant Secretary, Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Clinton Administration, responsible for privately owned multifamily housing; with a non-profit lender and affordable-housing developer in New York City. 2004-09, headed New York City's Department of Housing Preservation and Development, overseeing a US$ 7.5 billion programme to build and preserve affordable housing. Since 2009, Secretary, US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD); heads the agency that promotes home ownership, oversees public housing, and grants federal funds to local community planning and development organizations.
