Shi Wang

President, Vanke Foundation

Mr Wang Shi founded Vanke in 1984. After the public listing of Vanke in 1988, he served as the chairman of the board and general manager. He left the position of general manager in 1999, and the position of chairman in 2017, and is currently the honorary chairman of the board. Mr Wang Shi worked relentlessly for the company’s vision, team building and strategies. Under his leadership, Vanke has grown into China’s leading real estate company, ranking 307th in Fortune Global 500, and a pioneer in green building construction. Mr. Wang Shi is a member of the Leadership Council of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves under the UN Foundation, Global Commission on BiodiverCities by 2030 World Economic Forum, the board director of World Wildlife Fund US, the board director of the Palace Museum Cultural Relics Protection Foundation, the board director of the Han Meilin Art Foundation, the founding president of the One Planet Foundation, the director of the Mangroves Conservation Foundation, vice president of the China Chamber of International Commerce, the president of the Asian Rowing Federation, the Chairman of the Federation of Shenzhen Commerce, the Chairman of the Shenzhen Non-Governmental Organization Federation, and Chairman of the Shenzhen Foundation for International Exchange and Cooperation. In 1999, Mr Wang Shi co-founded the China Urban Realty Association and held its first rotating presidency. In 2004, he co-founded the Society of Entrepreneurs and Ecology (SEE) and served as its second Chairman. He was also the first executive director of One Foundation. In 2019, he co-founded Foundation for Rural Development (FRD) and Shenzhen Mammoth Foundation respectively and serves as chairman of the boards. Mr Wang Shi successfully summitted the Mount Everest respectively from the South Face in 2003 and the North Face in 2010. He was the 11th person who has achieved the 7+2 Adventure - reaching the highest peaks of the seven continents in 2004 and crossing the South Pole and the North Pole in 2005. Mr Wang Shi was a visiting scholar at Harvard University from 2011 to 2013, at Cambridge University and Oxford University respectively from 2014 to 2016 and at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem during 2018-2019. He is the author of Soul in The Journey, The Eighth Peak, The Journey and The Dream, The Vanke Way: Lessons on Driving Turbulent Change from a Global Real Estate Giant, and other books.
