Dr. Shuchin Bajaj is a doctor social entrepreneur. He was inspired by his roots as the son of refugee parents to give up his work in Delhi's biggest private hospital and open hospitals, clinics and digital health services aimed at providing high quality low cost health care to communities that don't have access.
For this he Founded Ujala Cygnus Hospitals. Ujala Cygnus is currently operating twenty one hospitals in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana with a combined bed strength of 2300 beds and more than 2800 employees, with a vision to provide superspeciality and emergency healthcare to district towns of the states of India where no such facilities currently exist. These Hospitals are supported by a network of outreach clinics and digital health services providing free tele consultations, to ensure everyone in the world has access to high quality health care services regardless of their financial, geographical or social status.
Shuchin is a highly qualified medical scholar. After completing his MBBS from PGIMS, Rohtak; he did his MD from Dr SNMC, Jodhpur in 2004.
Dr Bajaj was the recipient of the British Government’s 2015 Chevening Gurukul Fellowship for Leadership and Excellence award at King’s College London, ‘Innovating Health for Tomorrow” Fellowship at INSEAD, France in 2017, Aspire Fellowship and has completed the Seed Transformation Program conducted by the Stanford Global Business School. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Aspen New Voices.
He is on the board of a number of national prominent NGOs as Advisor-Health Programmes as well as being part of the Healthcare Track for Xynteo’s India2022 coalition.
Shuchin is an avid Healthcare Investor and is associated with multiple Health Tech Companies as investor, Board Member and mentor. He is on the TBIU Board of FITT, IIT, Delhi and was also a member of the Advisory Council to the previous Union Minister of State for Health and works closely with the Health Minister of Delhi.
Over the last two years, Shuchin was at the forefront of fighting the war on the pandemic as a frontline warrior doing clinical work including Covid ICU duties and managing his then nineteen hospitals, offering covid care to thousands of patients daily. Shuchin has also been a core team member of Project StepOne, helping 21 state governments manage their Covid response ranging from helplines to home isolation management to plasma management, attending to four million patients in the process, as well as running a free 1000 bed covid hospital with the largest field ICU in the country of 308 beds in Delhi and a 100 bed free Covid Hospital in Prayagraj. Shuchin also appeared on FM Radio leading multiple campaigns on Covid education, Vaccination, myth busting and plasma donation and was very visible on TV and social media for these efforts.
