Tasneem Kakal is a feminist advocate and researcher in development, working at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), Amsterdam. She works in partnership with international NGOs and governments to expand the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of young people in Africa and Asia. Through research and advisory services, she facilitates data-driven decision-making for impactful programming and advocacy. A project that Tasneem currently advises is a multi-country five year programme led by Plan International to end child marriage, teenage pregnancy and female genital mutilation. Tasneem also has grassroots experience in her hometown Mumbai, India. She co-founded two youth-led organisations, incentivizing schooling in villages and providing a carbon-free lighting alternative in urban slums. Prior to KIT, she worked with Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) and Oxfam Novib. She is an alumnus of the Institute of Social Studies, the Hague and the Asia Europe Foundation University Alumni Network. As a Global Shaper at the Amsterdam Hub, she is leading #Push2Power- a project to end gender discrimination at workplaces. As a gender-equality advocate, she was chosen to be a Young Leader by Women Deliver in 2018. She strives to work across sectors, translate ideas into action to build an inclusive and gender-equal world.
