Formerly: National Security Adviser to President Barack Obama; oversaw the U.S. National Security Council staff, chaired the cabinet level National Security Principals Committee, provided the president's daily national security briefing, and was responsible for the coordination and integration, administration's foreign policy, intelligence and military efforts; also oversaw the White House's international economics, cybersecurity and international energy efforts. Served as the President's personal emissary to world leaders. Previously: Assistant to the President and Principal Deputy National Security Adviser. Chaired Obama-Biden transition, U.S. Department of State. During 2008 US presidential campaign, headed President Obama's general election debate preparation effort. Chaired the Presidential Commission to Enhance National Cybersecurity. Distinguished Fellow, Council on Foreign Relations; Non-Resident Senior Fellow, Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs; Distinguished fellow, Asia Society; Member, Center on Global Energy Policy Advisory Board, Columbia University. Former Member: U.S. Defense Policy Board; Central Intelligence Agency's External Advisory Board. Advised three US presidents, including President Carter; Assistant Secretary of State and Chief of Staff, U.S. Department of State during Clinton administration. Recipient of honours and awards.
