Thomas Vetter

Head of Graphics and Vision Research Group, University of Basel

Topic: automated synthesis and analysis of images

Thomas Vetter’s research at the University of Basel is directed at automated synthesis and analysis of images. His aim is the development and implementation of algorithms for the automatic representation of entire classes of objects which describe variability (e.g. faces, cars or movements). Synthesis and analysis are both required in the implementation to allow recognition of individual variations within the classes and synthesis of images of new class elements. In addition to his work in the area of visualization and machine perception Thomas Vetter is also involved in research projects concerning human visual perception, where parametric image synthesis is applied to the investigation of the human visual system for image recognition in psycho-physical experiments.
