Outgoing Curator of the Peshawar Hub, Pakistan, Mr. Ubaid is the MS Development Studies graduate and is currently working as a Project Development Specialist in Climate Finance Unit at Ministry of Climate Change and Environment Coordination, Pakistan, where his responsibilities range from supporting the Climate Finance Unit (CFU) in developing and evaluating climate finance projects submitted towards Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) sub-nationally in Pakistan by providing technical support, coordinating with stakeholders, streamlining institutional processes, and developing and maintaining knowledge products for climate change, particularly in priority mitigation sectors. This includes ensuring access to climate finance and facilitating assessment processes.
Mr. Ubaid' qualitative research expertise also lies in a domain of Climate and Conflict- by assessing the impacts climate change has on the livelihoods in fragile states, and how such vulnerabilities provide grounds for joining the anti-state forces.
Previously, he has also worked as a Qualitative Researcher and Analyst in a domain of Air Pollution and Public Health for Adam Smith project, and in a domain of adaptation strategies while working for Pakistan Red Crescent Societies. Additionally, he also worked as a Project Assistant with UN-IOM, where he provided humanitarian support to the Afghan Refugees- migrated either due to conflicts or environmental change; by facilitating them with multi-purpose assistance and developing their business plans, as mean of sustainable livelihood.He had also been the visiting faculty member at Development Studies department of University of Peshawar. He has taken up the subjects of 1) Sociology of Development: where he is sensitised the learners regarding the causes and consequences of development, with particular focus on environmental governance; and 2) Introduction to Development Policy and Practices: where he aimed to link the theoretical ideologies of development into policy making and development practices. He has also worked as a Researcher with Pakistan Red Crescent Society, in their climate adaptation wing.
His keen interests are that of qualitative research methods; where he holds a particular expertise in a broader domain of climate change, that are: climate finance, climate- terrorism nexus; climate and behavioral change necessity; climate and health; and understanding climate change in the light of faith and science. His research expertise also lies in carrying out the socio-economic impact analysis of international development interventions for the farming communities of war affected areas.
Recently , he was also voluntarily leading a role of PMER Lead for local community based organisation and is serving in a project that cultivates the Olive trees in the targeted community; which will not only enhance the sustainable livelihood opportunities of the masses, but will also make that area lesser prone to floods. Moreover, he is also voluntarily advocating for climate action, raising concerns against deforestation, and advocating for better air quality levels by working for Sarhad Conservation Network and Peshawar Clean Air Alliance, that primarily work towards biodiversity conservation and better air quality levels. Very recently, he was also a part of IFRC' Youth movement- Asia Pacific Youth Network, Climate Change Working Group, where he advocated for climate action on Asia Pacific level.
