Formerly: Teacher, Graduate Programme in Global Studies, Sophia University, Japan; with the Development Studies Division, United Nations University in Tokyo. 1978, joined UNICEF Myanmar (Burma); also served in Sudan and India; managed Emergency Operations in the former Yugoslavian republics; Senior Programme Officer, Central Eastern Europe and CIS, New York; then Senior Programme Officer, Indonesia; then Special Representative, Timor-Leste; 2003-06, Director, Japan and the Republic of Korea, UNICEF, Tokyo. 2007, joined UNIDO as Managing Director, Programme Coordination and Field Operations Division, responsible for the UNIDO field programme operations, research and statistics, resource mobilization, and Chair, Project Approval Committee; 2009-11, Deputy to the Director-General, UNIDO. Since 2012, Assistant Director-General and Regional Director, Asia-Pacific, ILO.
