Senior Consultant, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Zhuoyan Zhang is a senior consultant at Gates Foundation Beijing office, focusing on promoting China-Africa investment and business opportunities to improve the well-beings of mid/low income population. Prior to that, Zhuoyan has 4-year on-the-ground working experience in Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya. As a consultant at Bain & Company and a founding member of Bain’s Nigeria office, she worked on mapping agriculture and industrialization roadmap for Nigerian government, defining digital economy potential in Africa, and driving financial inclusion and bank transformation in West Africa. Beyond that, Zhuoyan has been an active promoter of Africa-China cooperation, especially on technology and innovation. She has been running a personal blog since 2014, continuously featuring business and political insights about Africa with >5,000 active Chinese followers, and has provided commentary to central government-level publications like China Investment Journal. Meanwhile, she also presented at various conferences like World Economic Forum on Africa (2014), Harvard/Yale China-Africa conferences (2016/2017), etc. Zhuoyan holds a Master in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor from Renmin University of China.
