“Now seen as ‘Asia’s Bright Spot’, the Philippines stands firmly at the epicentre of the region’s most exciting economies. At the World Economic Forum on East Asia in Manila, we Filipinos hope to share the progress we have made in building an economy and a society that are dynamic and sustainable,” Benigno Simeon Aquino, President of the Philippines, said.

“The Philippines is on target to be the fastest growing economy in ASEAN this year, and it also shows one of the strongest improvements in the Forum’s annual Global Competitiveness Report. The programme of our 23rd East Asia meeting will examine how the region can balance fast-paced economic growth with equitable distribution of prosperity as well as climate change resilience,” Sushant Palakurthi Rao, Senior Director, Head of Asia-Pacific, World Economic Forum, said.

The meeting will provide an ideal platform for participants to explore the opportunities presented by the evolving ASEAN Economic Community as well as the challenges and gains of the Philippines’ fast economic growth.
