Headstart Stationery Drive

Due to socioeconomic and geographic limitations, school supplies can be difficult for indigenous communities to acquire. This project aims to ensure overall academic preparedness and to alleviate the financial burden on the communities to acquire school supplies. It will also enable the communities to allocate funds elsewhere. On August 6th 2013, the Global Shapers Georgetown Hub began the “Headstart Stationery Drive” campaign to raise funds to purchase school supplies for the Matthew’s Ridge Primary & Nursery School and the Kukupukari Primary School. These remote communities are located in Region 1 and Region 9, Guyana. Shapers aggressively reached out to businesses and citizens for assistance with monetary donations and supplies. A PayPal Donation Page (socialrankmedia.com/headstart) was also created to accept donations from the international community. The reception to this campaign was overwhelming positive. The Georgetown Shapers raised $3,400 USD, along with hundreds of units in stationery supplies.
