Mex I Can

Problem Statement

The business sector in Mexico, like in many other countries, is characterized by significant gender disparities, with women still lagging behind men in terms of representation and pay.

One major obstacle to achieve gender equity in Mexico is the pervasive influence of "machismo", which can contribute to a culture of sexism and misogyny. Women between 18 and 30 are often just beginning their careers and may encounter barriers to achieving equity in the workplace, particularly in sectors dominated by men.

These women may face additional economic barriers that limit their ability to pursue education or career advancement.

Another important factor to consider is mental health. Women in Mexico, particularly those from low and middle-income backgrounds, often face significant challenges related to mental health and well-being. This can be due to a variety of factors, including discrimination, poverty, and lack of access to healthcare.

To counteract this, we must work to challenge these attitudes and promote greater awareness of the ways which contribute to inequality.

Target Group

The majority of participants will be women from low and middle-income backgrounds between 18 and 30 years old.

Proposed Solution

Mex I Can is a project from the Morelia Hub which objective is to foster gender equality for young women between the ages of 18-30, particularly those of Mexican descent, who often face significant challenges related to their gender, race, and economic status.

The Mex I Can project has the potential to be a valuable platform for promoting gender equity and empowering young women from diverse backgrounds to achieve their full potential.

Hub Activities

To address these and other issues, the Mex I Can project aims to empower young women with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate these challenges and promote greater gender equity in their communities. This will include education on "the anatomy of a woman", as well as information on mental health, career development, and advocacy strategies. By providing these resources and empowering young women to take an active role in their communities, we can help to create a more just and equitable society for all.

Our project consists in:

  • Providing economic empowerment – the main goal is to help women with low income to have the necessary tools for getting ahead and building their own heritage.

  • Provide psychological empowerment – build confidence in every woman, so they acknowledge the value for society they represent and therefore reduce gender inequality.
