Powering AI at Scale: Optimizing Hyperscale Data Centre Infrastructure in MENA

Pressure is mounting on countries across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to rapidly scale hyperscale data centre capacity – the core infrastructure underpinning the region’s AI ambitions. Governments and sovereign wealth funds are investing heavily to position MENA as a global digital and AI hub. But building this new generation of energy-intensive facilities will require power systems, cooling capacity and regulatory frameworks to evolve at the same pace.

Energy infrastructure is already under strain. Electricity demand is rising faster than supply, extreme heat drives heavy cooling requirements and water scarcity increases dependence on energy-intensive desalination. Hyperscale data centres add a new layer of pressure. Designed to support large-scale AI workloads, these facilities concentrate vast computing power in high-density racks, creating sustained and sometimes volatile power demand that conventional grids were not built to handle. Without coordinated planning, hyperscale expansion risks outpacing the energy and water systems that sustain it.

Powering AI at Scale: Optimizing Hyperscale Data Centre Infrastructure in MENA presents a practical framework for resilient expansion of hyperscale data centres. It introduces a resource–intelligence matrix to align energy supply with AI-enabled demand management and outlines clear actions on energy optimization, cooling and regulatory reform to support stable, sustainable growth across the region.
