Leveraging Entrepreneurial Ambition and Innovation: A Global Perspective on Entrepreneurship, Competitiveness and Development

Entrepreneurship is a critical driver of economic growth, innovation and prosperity. The report Leveraging Entrepreneurial Ambition and Innovation: A Global Perspective on Entrepreneurship, Competitiveness and Development examines the relationship between entrepreneurship and competitiveness from a fresh perspective. By combining two unique data sets – the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Index data, which ranks the economic competiveness of 144 economies, and Global Entrepreneurship Monitor’s assessment of entrepreneurial activity across 70 economies – the report sheds new light on early-stage entrepreneurial activity, ambition and innovation. The report groups countries into five clusters of entrepreneurial ecosystems and develops a deeper understanding of how each can improve. We find that policymakers and governments must take in to account three factors: (1) the type of entrepreneurial economy in which entrepreneurship policy is being conducted, (2) the specific entrepreneurial outcome to be achieved, and (3) the levers available to achieve a specific outcome. The report is the culmination of a three-year initiative on New Models of Entrepreneurship and was written in partnership with Global Entrepreneurship Monitor and with case interviews with entrepreneurs provided by Endeavor Global.
