Japan government engages with Forum’s Risk Response Network on recovery efforts from 11 March quake

Yukio Edano_small In a pre-recorded video, Yukio Edano, Chief Cabinet Secretary, Cabinet Office of Japan, updated members of the World Economic Forum’s Risk Response Network on the challenges facing Japan following the 11 March earthquake and tsunami.

Regarding the ongoing nuclear crisis, he said that officials, with cooperation from the international community, were doing everything to bring the situation under control and that the government will share its knowledge and experience to reinforce the safety of nuclear power generation.

He also said that manufacturing supply chains, which had been disrupted by the disaster, were being restored, and that that food distribution and safety were being met with stringent quality control.

He added that the government will continue to provide accurate information, and welcomes cooperation and innovative ideas from the international community, the private sector, and the World Economic Forum, as Japan begins its reconstruction phase.

RRN_ManagingRisk_Scribe "The World Economic Forum's new Risk Response Network is focused on enabling global decision-makers to better understand, respond to, prepare for and capture opportunities related to the world's most difficult, complex, and systemic risks. Our hearts and thoughts are with the Japanese people at this difficult time. Working closely with the Japanese Prime Minister's Office, we are making available the expertise and resources of this Network to assist with Japan's rebuilding and recovery efforts," said Kevin Steinberg, Chief Operating Officer, World Economic Forum USA, and Head of the Risk Response Network.
