The World Economic Forum’s Top 10 Emerging Technologies 2015 report will introduce the major innovations that will disrupt the world, as identified by the Forum’s Meta-Council on Emerging Technologies. In partnership with Scientific American.

On the panel:

Moderator: Mariette DiChristina is editor-in-chief and senior vice president of Scientific American. A science journalist for more than 20 years, she first came to Scientific American in 2001 as its executive editor. She is also the past president (in 2009 and 2010) of the 2,500-member National Association of Science Writers. She has been an adjunct professor in the graduate Science, Health and Environmental Reporting program at New York University for the past few years. DiChristina is a frequent lecturer and has appeared at the 92nd Street Y in New York, Yale University and New York University among many others. In 2011, DiChristina was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) for the Section on General Interest in Science and Engineering.

Justine Cassell is Associate Vice-Provost for Technology Strategy and Impact at Carnegie Mellon University, and Co-Director of the Simon Initiative. Until recently she was the Charles M. Geschke Director of the Human-Computer Interaction Institute, in the School of Computer Science,, also at CMU. Prior to her arrival at CMU, Cassell was the founding director of both the Center for Technology and Social Behavior, and the Technology and Social Behavior joint Ph.D. in Communication and Computer Science at Northwestern University. Cassell previously held a tenured associate professor appointment at the MIT Media Lab where she directed the Gesture and Narrative Language Research Group.).

Jeffrey Carbeck is a chemical engineer, materials scientist and entrepreneur. Prior to his career as an entrepreneur, he was a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Princeton. He is currently chief technology officer at MC10. In 2006 he joined Nano-Terra as its Chief Scientist and also co-founded Arsenal Medical and served as its Chief Technology Officer. In 2012 480 Biomedical was spun out from Arsenal Medical. In 2009 he was a Clean Energy Fellow with the New England Clean Energy Council and also joined MC10 as it Chief Technology Officer. Soon after starting his career as an entrepreneur, the Boston Business Journal recognized him as one of the 40 outstanding professionals under the age of 40.

Mark Lynas is a British author, journalist and environmental activist who focuses on climate change. He is a contributor to New Statesman, The Ecologist, Granta and Geographical magazines, and The Guardian and The Observer newspapers in the UK; he also worked on the film The Age of Stupid. He was born in Fiji, grew up in Peru and the United Kingdom and holds a degree in history and politics from theUniversity of Edinburgh. He lives in Oxford, England. He has published several books including Six Degrees: Our Future on a Hotter Planet (2007) and The God Species: Saving the Planet in the Age of Humans (2011). He has stated “I think there is a 50–50 chance we can avoid a devastating rise in global temperature.”

Lee Sang Yup: Distinguished Professor, Director and Dean, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Republic of Korea. He is currently the Dean of College of Life Science and Bioengineering, Director of Center for Systems and Synthetic Biotechnology, Director of BioProcess Engineering Research Center, and Director of Bioinformatics Research Center. He has published over 350 journal papers, 50 books/book chapters, and 457 patents—either registered or applied. He received numerous awards, including the National Order of Merit, Merck Metabolic Engineering Award from Merck, and Elmer Gaden Award from Biotechnology and Bioengineering. He is currently Fellow of AAAS, Fellow of American Academy of Microbiology, Fellow of Korean Academy of Science and Technology, Junior Member of National Academy of Engineering Korea, Foreign Associate of National Academy of Engineering USA, Editor-in-Chief of Biotechnology Journal, and Associate Editor and board member of numerous journals.
